West McAdams joined BB&T Insurance Holdings in 2008 when Southern Risk, LLC, the company he owned was acquired. In his current role as President of CRC, West is accountable for leading the underwriting division of CRC Group including CRC, CRC Transportation, and Tapco Underwriters.  In 2018, the underwriting division grew to include 36 locations, responsible for placing more than $1.3 billion of premium.  West recognizes that wholesale insurance is an entrepreneurial business and he’s dedicated to empowering his team to grow the business by building strong market relationships, nurturing solid partnerships with carriers, and engaging an entrepreneurial spirit that relentlessly pursues the most innovative solution for every client.

West originally began his insurance career in 2005, joining Southern Risk as their COO after successful careers in the fields of strategy and environmental consulting.  West has also served on the advisory boards of Markel and Nationwide E&S.  He has earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from Clemson University as well as an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill. 

West, his wife Cam, and three children Callie, Douglas, and Jane, live in Sumter, South Carolina where they’re active members of the Trinity United Methodist church. West also invests in the lives of others by supporting the local Young Life chapter. On a pretty day you may find him outdoors enjoying a quiet afternoon of fly fishing or playing with the newest addition to the family, a golden retriever puppy, named Georgia.
